If you are looking for a maths tutor in the Pocklington, I offer expertise with a friendly approach.
I have many years experience helping children improve in this vital subject and until recently I was a maths teacher in an outstanding East Yorkshire secondary school.
Students of all ages enjoy my lessons and make significant progress. In turn their confidence grows and they engage better with the subject in and out of school.
I have five children of my own and have worked as a bond trader and a maths teacher in between raising a big family.
I attended Ackworth School in Yorkshire and left with A levels in Maths (A), Physics (A) and French (A). I then studied at Cambridge University and graduated with a first class degree.
I took a Maths Enhancement course at Hull University and graduated top of the class with 100% in calculus, 99% in geometry and 95% in number and algebra.
Claire is currently teaching my third child having also taught my other two daughters in previous years. All three of my children have different capabilities and learning styles which Claire manages seamlessly to tune into. As a parent I feel a great sense of relief, confident in the knowledge that all aspects of the curriculum will be covered thoroughly and problem areas ironed out, well in advance of exam time. Of equal importance, for me anyway, is the way Claire, through her own love of the subject, brings maths to life. She has a friendly, patient style and instils confidence. My middle daughter, having struggled initially, was inspired to study further and then ‘A’ level maths. I attribute this directly to Claire’s commitment to her. I can highly recommend Claire as a person who will remove the hassle or worry you may feel as a parent trying to engage your child in maths. My third child was hesitant when I proposed extra lessons. It did not take long however for her to appreciate the quality of support and tuition on offer, for which she is very grateful. Lou

Claire worked with my son across the academic year of 19/20 and had a massive impact on his enjoyment and understanding of maths. My son did not enjoy maths and found it challenging to grasp the key concepts of the higher maths paper that his school had entered him in. Within weeks Claire enabled my son to enjoy maths as well as to feel confident in tackling difficult concepts. Cameron’s understanding grew rapidly and within a couple of months he was performing in practice papers, exams and questions two grades higher than he had been before he started working with Claire. Unfortunately, Cameron’s time was cut short with Claire due to the pandemic but I am confident that his mathematical knowledge and enjoyment would have continued to grow and blossom under her guidance. Claire was always well prepared and organised for every session and ensured that each one was tailored to Cameron’s gaps in knowledge and learning needs. Claire’s manner is a perfect combination of passion for the subject of maths, a desire to push and motivate her students; but this is all intertwined with a high level of compassion and support. My son was not a keen mathematician before he started working with Claire and every maths teacher before had failed to really motivate his interest as with other subjects but Claire made their lessons challenging and enjoyable and he realised he actually enjoyed maths and could succeed in this subject. Claire managed Cameron’s learning and confidence well; she was so positive and supportive when he needed her to be and showed real compassion if he was doubting his mathematical ability. I would not hesitate in recommending in Claire for tutoring. If you want your child to either succeed academically in maths beyond GCSE or in GCSE to enable them to pursue their future interests I would absolutely say Claire is the person who will enable them to do this. Cameron was lucky to be able to work with Claire and this tutoring opportunity allowed him to succeed in his maths GCSE and pursue his next stage of learning.
Cameron, Year 11 - GCSE
Claire has been teaching me for nearly a year and my maths has come on leaps and bounds. Thanks to Claire I have become more confident in maths and have more courage to put my hand up in class, as she has gone through things with me so easily. Whenever I am stuck on regular maths work I bring it home from school and she helps me work through it so that I always have a clearer understanding! Claire is so understanding and sweet and is an excellent maths tutor. At the end of each session I feel great because even when I might not understand something, when I get the breakthrough it’s a great feeling! I always have fun and a laugh with her each session. I have no idea what I would do without Claire.
Abigail, Year 9 - GCSE
I started maths sessions with Claire after I failed my maths mock in lower sixth. In four months I went from an E to a high B. Claire’s the best. She’s patient and explains things so clearly. She even makes it fun! I really recommend her.
Gavin, Year 12 - 'A' Level
Claire has tutored our 16yr old daughter in maths for a while now. Having found maths a trial throughout her school years, Evie has now gained a lot of confidence as she works towards her GCSEs. She enjoys the tutorials, saying that Claire works at a pace she is comfortable with and is always happy to return to problem topics. Evie has recommended Claire to her friends.

I am extremely grateful to Claire for helping me to achieve an 'A' grade in my Further Maths Certificate. Given that I found the subject quite challenging, Claire guided me through the curriculum with patience and her teaching was key to my understanding of topic areas. I found her explanations easy to understand and her methods easy to apply. She enabled me to look at questions and pick out the relevant strategies needed to give a correct answer. Claire always ensured I understood a topic area completely before moving on and I found this very helpful. I was given a lot of practical advice and direction regarding suitable resources which helped me learn independently and enjoy the subject. Claire's biggest contribution to me personally was that she gave me confidence in my own ability to be good at maths. I found her passion for the subject inspiring and It contributed towards my decision to take maths for 'A' level. I would recommend Claire to anyone who is struggling with the subject, lacking confidence or just needing extra guidance in order to achieve a top grade.
Annie, Year 11 - Further Maths
Claire has been teaching my daughter for the last couple of years now and I cannot tell you how delighted we are with the results. The way Claire teaches and explains things suits Sophie down to the ground. We now have lots of “ah, I get it” moments! Claire not only teaches well but having five children herself understands that different children have different learning styles and adapts her approach accordingly until the question is understood. Claire also has a full understanding of all the requirements of GCSE and A levels which has proved to be a great help. We cannot recommend her highly enough. She’s also lovely!
